it’s very difficult to get excited about effortless creativity, unless you see art mostly as a means to a commercial end… it’s sad to see how many people who fund art feel this way, tho at the same time… makes sense of a lot of things lol

if this does end up to graphs whatever spreadsheets were to tables, that is super exciting… I usually just draw things in figma, but a way to record semantics and then style would be awesome with the right UI

I think this is true of any creative medium, but it’s surprisingly rare and hard to maintain. Can understand why people fixate on technical stuff when it’s missing. Do you find you naturally have things you want to say, or do you do things to encourage that?

one of the things I really like about bluesky is their plans for community moderation… it’s certainly possible to make a community note labeller now so people could flag for review… just needs someone to build a ticketing system on the other side and recruit fact checkers 👀

there’s a familiar pattern to groups imploding… one person is convinced something is happening and starts to act out… the group has to manage/subdue this person, and the next wave of hysteria comes from how they handled it… i wonder how many waves of this one could do and keep it interesting

funnily enough, that’s pretty much the sentiment in the original post…

it’s not great that shallow abstractions are the dominant form of understanding, but it’s understandable

the issue is it makes it harder to speak at the more detailed level on shared platforms

bsky.app/profile/wang...
“Science = good”, “algorithm = bad”, “make America great again”, “orange man bad”, etc etc

The “sound bite way of knowing” is now the sensemaking modus operandi of the masses. It’s the gnashing of teeth without comprehension.
Just as a trapped wolf may bite someone trying to free it,

this is the same set of thoughts I went through seeing it on gamepass! wondered if actually I should just read roadside picnic again (and the annihilation series for that matter)

perhaps the star is a bit like that fungus that hijacks ants; he’s just a host for a malevolent christmas spirit… no clear thinking coniferous evergreen would be willingly decked in tinsel like that
