Important piece from Jamie Burton, Chair of Just Fair: if Labour won’t stand firm on human rights, what does it stand for? Silence on migrant rights isn’t neutral — it’s dangerous.

Does human rights law really stop the UK controlling migration? No – and Keir Starmer knows that | Jamie Burton
It would be wrong for Labour to collude in the attack on the European convention. It’s fuelled by myths and false narratives, says human rights barrister Jamie Burton

Starmer warned benefit cuts to hit 800,000 and be ‘as toxic’ as winter fuel changes

1/ In May 2022,the @coe.int European Committee of #SocialRights issued a statement on the crisis caused by Russia’s military aggression against #Ukraine. It made clear that military aggression against another State Party is per se inconsistent with the spirit & purposes of the #EuropeanSocialCharter
Three years ago today, Russia denied Ukraine its right to exist. Three years on, #CouncilOfEurope’s support is unwavering.

@coe.int stands with #Ukraine. Its future is European, built on our shared values: #HumanRights, #Democracy, and #RuleOfLaw.

The Secretary of State's No Recourse to Public Funds policy, as currently drafted and applied to the claimants in this case, insufficiently protects from risk of subjection to destitution, constituting a breach of Article 3 ECHR
"The Secretary of State has failed to implement a system that ensures sufficiently timeous decisions on application to lift NRPF conditions to minimise, in a proportionate way, the risk of inhuman and degrading treatment. She has therefore breached... article 3 ECHR."
