1/2 Here’s a 1 min trailer for Advanced Issues in Public Law, a 2nd yr module I’m teaching late 2026 at @durham.ac.uk with @aileenmcharg.bsky.social and @rogermasterman.bsky.social.

I just used iMovie. No AI.

I&S = individual and the state; UK Con = UK constitutional law—both 1st yr modules.

The accusation that the Lords are “obstructing democracy” by supporters of the assisted dying bill is a ridiculous one that shows up the flaws in this process that have been there from the very beginning – which have repeatedly been covered up by heated rhetoric (1/?)

30,000+ Iranians slaughtered in just two days.

48,000+ murdered since December 28, when the uprising against the regime began.

These are the latest figures reported by the ICHR.

Silence helps the regime, not the Iranian people. Speak up now before there is no one left to save.

This is a tightly argued paper that challenges some prevailing assumptions on the compatibility of life sentences with human rights (as understood by the ECtHR). Still, I'd have liked to see more as to whether all carceral regimes are covered by the argument (or just some). Anyway, recommended
New paper with @guyjbaldwin.bsky.social, in which we argue that, in finding whole life sentences to be contrary to human rights, the ECtHR and the SCC have made important doctrinal and philosophical mistakes. Forthcoming in the EHRLR, but pre-print available on SSRN: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
