As an epilogue, there are still beavers in the creek though I imagine the half-blind vandal isn't among them. They're also no longer evil; there's a whole organization to protect them and educate the public.

Gary was the pets and wildlife columnist for the Contra Costa Times, my hometown paper and first newsroom job, and a local celebrity. I read his column religiously as a kid and it was an honor to be his friend and go on insane adventures with him. I wish I'd convinced him to do a cameo in the show.
