Randomly thinking about Chi No Guadachi. What a powerful, haunting manga. Definitely recommend but beware of its triggers, of which it has many.

El Eternauta is everything I had always wanted for an adaptation... and more. All the changes made to the plot work flawlessly. The visuals, the tone, the atmosphere: beautiful and sinister. Okupas is a masterpiece and Stagnaro is now my personal god. Just go watch it already.

Your deck starts small but each fall lets you and all players off the wall add new cards (you're sharing advice, the best part of bouldering!). And if you run out of cards and still have holds to resolve, you can pick from your discard! Fortune favors the bo(u)ld 😝

The exact value on holds starts hidden and you uncover it (for everybody!) as you climb. You know their type, tho: explosion means higher numbers but you can go overboard, precision needs to be exact (but your supports can also be substracted!). And the caution symbol means extra difficulty.

Here's how it plays: your goal is to climb. First you decide which and how many holds to attempt, then you do them. Holds have a number; to reach it you flip one card of your deck and spend support from holds previously climbed. Each success scores but one failure and you fall back to the bottom!

Here's the path making mechanic! You can connect holds when's your turn to climb and those connections stay in place for other players as well!

This keeps going through quick iterations (this picture is old by now!). Now we have two different types of holds, a tactical reshuffle as you exert yourself and the ability to trace new connections between holds - for you and others! Super happy about the positive interaction on this one.

I got super trashed but fuck this game is a gem

The design keeps ascending! We swap the dice for cards and included a mechanic to "advice" your competitors after they fall, by gifting them and yourself special cards! Alas, out numbers were off so there wasn't any falling (but lots of smiling 🥹)

This seems to have some legs but can we take it to the TOP?

Get a HOLD of this bouldering game prototype which I started co designing with a dear dear friend of mine (the guy who got me into games, actually). Creative pairs can be challenging but also so much fun (specially when their brainstorming is way better than yours 🥶)

Oh, yeah, you'll need el Gauchito's help for what's coming to you ;)

This project has brought me endless joy and learning already, and it's only the beginning! We have SO MUCH planned for it. Stay tuned, try it out and give us some feedback!

The other is a eurostyle wp: we are #Doomsayers gathering followers amidst an impending flooding, while trying to predict when it's gonna hit (ending the game). Followers are both points and expended to enlarge your ark and gather omens, which we contribute to accelerate or slow down the apocalypse.

Two new designs I've started recently: one is a solo game about doing household chores while you struggle with #IntrusiveThoughts. These are tiles that when drawn you either immediately obey and discard, or keep and try to clear before nighttime comes and they trigger disastrous effects!

As a designer also drawn to weird thematic experiences and asymmetric coop/mpetition, I sincerely admire Matúš Kotry as a trailblazer for these uncharted pastures of playfulness and social interaction, teaching us so much in the process.

(Oh, Lolo, you beautiful scapegoat 👹)

"Deal with the devil" is the most interesting game I've tried as of late. A peculiar mix of euro style resource management and tableau building with negotiation, hidden roles and social deduction. It's the type of game I'd love to design and it's also a cautionary tale about niche experiences 🧵

Me designing a solo game about fighting intrusive thoughts

After a dry spell, "Todo muere salvo el mar", my ninth read of 2024, made me ugly cry and reminiscence a lot about my last relationship. This one totally flew under the radar and it's gonna make a big splash in our bookstore. God, I love my job.

It has been some time since a book gripped me this bad. I had to stop working and skip lunch just to finish it. It gave me an immense dread and nostalgia for the bottomless pit that adolescence can be, and the noxious power of its infatuations.

Reading Uzumaki while having Dengue wasn't going that bad...
February 25, 2024 at 11:42 PM
I just won truly the stupidest StS run ever. Bludgeoning my way through mid level management, powered by mummified demon forms and apparitions. Gosh, I love this game.

Getting back into ttrpgs, I'd missed this! First time playing a pure PbtA. Masks is fun, yo

With that cast, director and writer, what a HUGE disappointment. I am all for far-fetched promises and tonal shifts (Barbarian <3) but this is not how you do it. Also nobody had a real dramatic arc... And why would you include a slasher villain in a movie with such a clear 'natural' threat?!
