New article out with @joshuabasseches.bsky.social @prof-b-t.bsky.social and Kayla Gurganus. Bottom line: Does public worry more about cost impacts of a market based than a regulatory climate policy? Not really…

Long-term contracts for cheap solar are expected to get even cheaper. As long as the tax credits from the IRA remain in place. With the electricity affordability crisis that is upon us, keeping these tax credits in place is a no-brainer:

Growing competition could drive down solar PPA prices by 2026: Enverus
The projected price declines remain dependent on tax credits included in the Inflation Reduction Act, however, an Enverus analyst said.

This is a real tragedy of our current situation. Like it or not (I don't), big business - not just government - is a major force in driving energy economy, but w/o signals of supportive policy from D.C., the corporate motive to "go green" is fleeting:

‘Fear and chaos’: Big business is no longer ‘all in’ on climate
Tech giants joined states and cities as a pillar of resistance during President Donald Trump’s first term. Now the coalition is in turmoil.

DOGE recommends cuts to the FAA.

Hundreds of workers get fired, including those tasked with producing air traffic navigation maps.

Now Starlink is reportedly in line to take over a $2 billion contract to upgrade the nation's air traffic control systems.

See how this works?

I've been making this point repeatedly to my students in my intro to public policy class this semester.
Part of the chaos of this moment comes from a press failing to call illegal what's illegal, to identify when these are powers not granted to the feds. And part from people cooperating with illegal orders.
I want to make it clear that no executive order can change federal law and every executive order trump has signed has expressly disclaimed the intent to. The screenshot is from the DEI EO. That’s before you get to courts actually blocking big parts of it. And yet the overcompliance is legion.
