I mainly post about games and I cannot promise any sort of throughline. I jump around as my brain suggests!

Timeline wise it doesn't really make sense for DK to secretly know the girlfriend he doesn't actually care about.

But also Pauline deserved better than being a pawn in their pet/owner power struggle!

So DK and Pauline having a cooperative relationship just makes emotional sense to me.

Yugioh world championship 2004.

The very early yugioh games are often characterised as still figuring things out - the rules are inconsistent, the cards wildly unbalanced in ways that the game has yet to understand.

2004 is late enough that the basic questions are answered. But.

Making a short list of things that the AI for Arkana in yugioh world championship 2004 has done against me specifically, with the card cannon soldier.

Trails through daybreak 1 and 2.

I'm finally caught up! I'm free!

Echoes of Wisdom.

This one took me a while to get into - the beginning of the game is the weakest part imo for a variety of reasons, but once the game gives you more tools to work with it really opens up.

Still fairly middle of the road, but a sequel by this team could be really good!

I now realise the backgrounds are probably the temporary assets mentioned.

I love her unconditionally (I know nothing about her)

(If you saw a thread like this briefly earlier today, no you didn't, I just had to check if this was ok first)

Playing the demo. I have been advised to note it's an early, rough alpha with some temporary assets! So I'm sure the full game will be even better.

Forget monochrome, consider: Blue

Metaphor.

A common critique of character arcs in Persona 4 is that they'll start with a cool premise (e.g. "How will Yukiko escape her family business"), and then swerve ("she likes it actually"), before pretending that worse idea was the real character arc all along.

The main plot of Metaphor.

Raincode.

Can a filler case sink an entire game? Raincode demonstrates the answer yes.
But even if that wasn't the case, there's just not enough here to get excited about. The rest of the game is fine, but lacks an effective emotional core.
So in six months, I will likely only remember the racism.

Citizen Sleeper 2.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh

What a game. There's a mechanic introduced right at the very end of the game. It's a real good mechanic.

I loved this. And I already liked the first game a whole lot! Highly recommend both.

Tales of Berseria.

My first Tales game. I apologise for listening to people who said you didn't need to play Zestiria for this one, it's mostly true but a surprising number of end game reveals revolve around names that are significant in Zestiria apparently.

Chrono cross

A modern trend in indie rpgs is to chase the success of chrono trigger. This is a mistake! Trigger is both near perfectly executed, but also not conceptually that unusual.

Cross is:
Not perfect
Really weird
Beautiful
One of my new faves.

Chase the success of cross instead!

There are a lot of iconic pets in videogames, but only Poshul Chrono Cross:

Has zero plot relevance

Is not mechanically notable among the game's 45 party members

Refuses to wear a funny outfit in the vein of Red XIII

And is still iconic enough to end up on the radical dreamers promo art

Trails into reverie.

Trails is a series of high highs, and low lows. Some of those lows are in Reverie.

But it also makes the most compelling case for Trails as a project - why is this series a long running universe, rather than independent stories? Reverie answers that question for me.

Misericorde volume 2! Loved it, can't wait (but can wait) for the conclusion.

There's a scene towards the end that made me go "you fucker. You can't just say that and not explain" Which is how you know I'm invested in the mystery.

Playing Nayuta: Boundless Trails, having a good time.
King Argol is kind of gender? In the same way black mages in final fantasy are kind of gender.
If you get me, you get me.

The trails obsession really kicked back in for the second half of 2024 after years of not playing them, but I promise, I'm taking a break this time.
This always goes well.

Me playing Life is Strange when it came out: haha, Max likes a movie that no one else does, how characterful

Me now: SHE'S RIGHT, THE WORLD ITSELF IS WRONG, WE AS A SOCIETY MUST ACKNOWLEDGE OUR MISTAKES

Playing the castlevania advance games, it is SO funny that Circle of the Moon is a light jaunt through a mildly spooky castle, where the scariest location is a bloody waterway (where the blood can be turned into water)...
...and then you start Harmony of Dissonance and the immediate vibes are

People were talking a few years ago about how great A Short Hike is. Well. Several years later. I finally got round to it! It is that good. A very comfy little game that is as long as it needs to be and no longer.
I also listen to the soundtrack all the time.

Dragon Quest VII is a game that almost forgot to have a main plot. Whoops! But the main plot is so... Not there, that most of the game can focus on the good stuff: tragic but light hearted dragon quest vignettes, and Maribel, the best character.
I wish there wasn't a main plot at all really?

Disclaimer - I know the developer of this one. But Yudashi Peril is genuinely a contender for my GOTY. It's a VN about queer women, trauma, and timeloops!
The main protagonist is very well realised, and several other characters made me feel Normal. Highly recommended.
