Ok Spelling Bee, then what exactly did Leonardo DiCaprio do to Cillian Murphy in that movie, hmmmmmm?

Twisting my expression into a mien of exaggerated annoyance and disbelief that Spelling Bee doesn’t accept “Gurning” despite the NYT apparently having previously run an article about a gurning contest.

Took down the tomato patch this weekend and roasted the leftovers for sauce.

Grabbed a copy of Graves’ translation of Lucan’s Pharsalia off the $1 book rack at Commonwealth Books yesterday. Leafing through this evening, and came to this arresting section heading in Book VIII

Admittedly, obscure, but still a recognizable English word with similar roots to “invocation” and “advocate”.

Recognize my pangram, you cowards!

Denied some points for an oldie-but-goody. Encountered this word back in college when I was on an Arthurian kick, and it has stuck w/me since.

Spelling Bee just getting its whole ass out again, not knowing a word that is familiar to anyone who has ever had to do maintenance on an old outboard boat motor and -aggravatingly- was a pangram.

Ok, then, Spelling Bee… how would *you* describe suspensions like mayonnaise?

What do *you* call it when you use a winch, Spelling Bee?

Honestly not sure if I’m wrong and there’s no singular, or if Spelling Bee is just showing its ass again, but I suspect it’s the latter.

Mostly about NYT’s Spelling Bee’s weak vocabulary.

Denied a pangram again because Spelling Bee is dim about chemistry.

Apparently RFK Jr. is running the Spelling Bee

Appreciating that this is an olde fashioned term, still seems like it should count… it’s not a proper noun and I think it’s established enough in the English lexicon that it shouldn’t count as “foreign”…
March 15, 2025 at 5:14 PM
Spelling Bee’s blind spots in scientific terms are strangely unpredictable. It accepted “iliac” but didn’t recognize “aniline”. Not like the former is less jargon-y than the latter.
February 24, 2025 at 12:16 AM
I swear I’ve played this word successfully in the past. NYT is engaging in goon erasure.

Amazon thinking that buyers of the 33 1/3 on Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works might also enjoy a book on self-diagnosing autism seems a little on-the-nose.
