I have a problem.

Last month proved to be a weird one because it sure doesn't feel like I read twenty-three books. There were no 5 star reads for August, but six of the books were close at 4 1/2. Most were romances, but one horror is included which I talked about during the month. Claire Kingsley, Nadia Lee, Nyssa Kathryn were my top read authors for the month.

This past week I've read two books that just made me want to rant. Both are on Kindle Unlimited, so it's not the money spent that's irritating. I don't expect every book I read to be great. I'm happy with average as long as something sparkles in them. Usually this is the characters. I think it's the disappointment that has me ranting.

I picked up the three free months promo for Kindle Unlimited and have been making use of it over reading books I already own. Some of my favorite authors had new books in the program and I wanted to catch up on the series. I also tried reading some horror, just for something different because I've been gorging on romances lately even though it's been a struggle finding ones that catch my interest.

The beginning of summer...the beginning of the end of my book slump. I started out the month slow, primarily sticking with short books, like Harlequin Intrigue and Romantic Suspense. (Does still reading category romances date me???) At the end of the month, Amazon was offering three free months for Kindle Unlimited and so, like the addict I am, I turned that back on.

Last month was odd. Like, I felt like I read a lot less than I did. But the data says I read six more books than I'd read in March. So, win? Most of my books for the month were on the short side. Sixteen of them were under 300 words, with roughly half of those under 150 words. Aha! Now I see why it feels like I didn't read much.

I'm having a hard time finding books that catch my interest this past month. I feel like this is my least amount read in a month, but Storygraph tells me differently. Apparently, March was. I'm trying to find that next great series, preferably romantic suspense, but nothing's landing. I ended up rereading all of Catherine Cowles series again over the last two months.

April has arrived so it's time to assess where my reading goals are at. I'm going to say right off the bat, that I was a bit lacking when it came to reading this month. I allowed political drama to distract me from the fun. Still, I'm a couple books ahead of my yearly reading goal so it's fine. It's FINE.

The more comments I read across social media, the more I feel our government is actively advocating for two types of people: Us and Them.
