Watching Matthew repeatedly say he does not know how to say “you have a small penis” in Irish and Mrs Schestowitz apologising “if she hurt his feelings” [when accusing him of heinous crimes] was one of the most absurt experiences of my life.

This is a fitting end to a very strange story.
In and around 2023, Roy and Rianne Schestowitz were subject to a horrific campaign of online abuse. Unfortunately they blamed me for it, and in turn wrote and published an astonishing array of articles making false accusations against me. Last year, I sued them in the high court in London.

This trial had many beautiful moments, but this was definitely one of the highlights 🕯️
I think I may have been the first person to ever explain a Dril tweet to an English High Court judge

What she said.
I am no longer accepting the argument "there are bigger problems than this!" unless you are personally working to stop the ultimate Heat Death of the Universe.

To a request at work of “increasing velocity” on a project I responded along the lines of “time is a constant here, so unless you plan on sending everyone else down a gravity well, we have the time we have and we will deliver what we can in those hours.” I think I’ve officially lost it.

Scientists are losing their salaries because the government is simultaneously racist and incompetent.
It’s official: all funding requests made on Tuesday by postdocs for their salaries have been unilaterally rejected by NSF.

Katie sums it up well: “delays” in grants means researchers are loosing their jobs, and we loose top researchers who are trying to find ways of helping us in various ways live healthier, fuller and longer lives. There are absolutely no winners here.
Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

Surviving another day - mostly ‘cause I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of Star Trek music videos to Katy Perry songs, and I highly recommend it!

When reality coincides with how a dystopian novel would sound, you know it’s bad.

The Horniman Natural History Gallery features this stunning walrus.

It was transported to England, purchased in 1886. There, the taxidermists, having never seen one in the wild, stuffed it until the wrinkles smoothed out.

This is a fully inflated walrus, my friends.

So far my Sunday morning has consisted of grocery shopping, making a bolognaise, a batch pulled pork, and reading a paper on colonising Venus. I’m now off to review a paper on environmental effects of ADHD. Fairly well-rounded if I may say so.

I love many, many things about this paper, but Venus being referred to as 'Earth's evil twin' might be top of the list 😂
Here’s a fun (short) paper by a NASA scientist explaining why we should go build cloud cities on Venus because “At cloud-top level, Venus is the paradise planet” ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citation...
