After getting into an argument with one of them it turns out that you’re only pure English if you‘re derived from Germans that invaded 1500 years ago

ok, not the most convincing reasons tbh! Feels like it really does just come down to politics / lack of will
I assumed money went to the banks as lots of poeple would have higher mortgage payments but does that then go back to the BoE? You don’t have to answer obv as I could look this up of course

I still don’t understand why taxes isn’t the first lever you pull (I have no knowledge of economics), it’s surely beneficial to the country as well as anti-inflationary? I also don’t understand where the money goes when you raise interest rates but I assume it goes to the banks?

Idi Amin deported 80,000 Asians from Uganda in 1972. So although the Conservatives want to propose the first mass deportation of legal migrants since Idi Amin - especially with the retrospective changes in ILR - Lam is proposing to deport 20 times as many people as Idi Amin.

I agree with all of the above but having seen the attitudes of even my liberal parents harden over the last couple of years (mostly I suspect due to their continuing subscription to The Times) I seriously worry that this sort of policy will edge into mainstream thought
