When people can pop out between calls to grab essentials or a coffee in their neighborhood, the neighborhood will benefit. I don't see how anyone could deny that?

I vaguely remember someone expressing shock to me that Japan had 40 year mortgages? I'd have to do more research but I wonder if that kind of thing is more common in places that are built around multi-generational housing arrangements.
