I share my thoughts on games, urban planning, and sometimes other things.
Finally finished Kingdom Come Deliverance (1) and over all enjoyed it!

The greatest Joy of this game is watching Hans and Heinrich be idiots together.

Furthermore it thought me again that a simple thing like giving you verbal directions instead of a marker, can make a quest much more rewarding.

MIDST and UNEND (still on season 1) are some of *the* best fiction I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

The way a story can be great and captivating and fun without explaining every little detail and just staying fantastical while tugging you along for the ride is really fun.

I started listening to the Halo audiobooks and now I am finally catching up on the games.
Never expected to get roped into playing a classic like this!
With Helldivers 2 and now Halo it seems to be my Year if the Space Marine or something. 🚀

This is the perfect game in my steam library, I will never touch it.

A more fleshed out narrative and characters work really well for Monster Hunter.
Might be simple compared to other games, but it works nicely for this franchise.
Also the voiced hunter is a huge plus to me!!
(My Palico is still meowing tho)

The time has come when my set-up can't handle newer games, even on low settings.
So time for an upgrade and *oh boii* I did not realize just how expensive higher end hardware is. 💀
Let's see how AMDs steps are gonna go.

Playing the Monster Hunter wild beta reminded me of my times playing MH on the PSP with how bad the textures loaded in.

Kingdom Come Deliverance gives you the very specific experiences of silently taking out bandits while burping because Henry is better at some things when drunk.

monster hunter wilds has once again made me ponder the merits of letting players see the individual pores on their characers' skins vs. actually being accessible to people who didn't steal their PC from nasa

Kingdom Come Deliverance (the first) is helping me unlearn completionist habits in games.
Simply through showing me a "quest failed" notice when I succeed at a quest in a specific way and skipped some parts.
Feels so good to just play and not optimize my experience.

I am obsessed with that one take that parks like Disneyland or Europapark (here in the EU) are so enjoyable because they are walkable cities.

An important read that validates many of the feelings and fears one can have with GenAi. It's all so fucked up because you can see the degrading capabilities all around.

At the same time, it is so alluring to just be lazy and use it.
Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place

When I first loaded in, I thought I was back on the PSP with Monster Hunter Freedom.
We need a name for the thing where a new game has so much higher system requirements than its prior entry that it ends up looking worse on your PC.

(Or: I swear I was getting better looking textures than this in Monster Hunter World)

“We found there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10% then driving went up by 10%.” Still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads leads to more driving. Understanding “The Unbreakabke Law Of Congestion” aka #InducedDemand. Via @wired.com
What's Up With That: Building Bigger Roads Actually Makes Traffic Worse
The concept is called induced demand, which is economist-speak for when increasing the supply of something (like roads) makes people want that thing even more. Though some traffic engineers made note ...

Ewww

They are once again taking the wrong conclusions from this kind of 'failure'
"To break out beyond the core audience, games need to directly connect to the evolving demand of players who increasingly seek shared world features and deeper engagement alongside high-quality narratives" EA's CEO has said, post Dragon Age: The Veilguard. bit.ly/3Q52rAP
