Every day must nurture three things: time showing my dogs that they are loved and safe; pages of the written word; plants either in seeds propagated or native plants repotted or a meadow/forest creating. After those breaths: mutual aid, disability justice.
I was trying to remember a day without a library book in my hand or head. Most likely on trips overseas before audiobooks on iPhones became a thing. Unfortunately in the month at Rush during my first set of spinal reconstruction surgeries.

Yes, I have a home library. It will never compare.

NEW: Today ALA & our co-plaintiff @afscme.bsky.social filed a preliminary injunction in federal court.

This continues our ongoing legal action to save federal library funding.

Our goal is to immediately halt the dismantling of the Institute of Museum & Library Services. 1/3

Libraries save lives! Let’s all stand up for them.
NEW: ALA is going to court to stop the President’s attempts to illegally dismantle the Institute of Museum & Library Services.

The President does not have the authority to destroy a federal agency. That's why we're taking action with our co-plaintiff @afscme.bsky.social. #ForOurLibraries (1/3)

In 1990, I did an interlibrary loan request from my small-town library. One book led me to the doctors who would save my life. Not figuratively. Literally.

Please use your local library and support @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social so that someone else can write something like this 35 years from now.

I often get anxiety talking on the phone these days. But calling elected officials is a crucial part of living in America these days.

Of my three federal officials, only Jennifer McClellan had a live person to answer my call and actively listen and respond to my concerns about DOE and SSA.

Read this post last night and I am still thinking about it.

I miss zines and chapbooks and little flyers that I would use as bookmarks. I miss the anticipation each week of The Chicago Reader and what events and schemes I may plan for the week ahead.

Sometimes, life can only be written in the passive tenses. As I type that, think that, the inner editor of years of English and journalism classes screams "No!"

How can I write myself out of this past month? How can I not feel as if this administration isn't vivisecting me and those I love?

For someone who has little relationship with her blood kin, I can spend hours on genealogy sites.

And I only search for land. I have no use for the names of flesh but I crave town names. If I had money, I would go to every single place, just to walk barefoot.
