Here, as in so many areas, our inability to plan ahead or rationally consider trade-offs is going to fck us in the end. And when a situation like this grows into a full-on, urgent disaster, guess who gets screwed? The poor. That's where all this is heading: even more grotesque inequality.

The real trap here is that the Republicans have made defending civil rights seem like a frivolous thing and a whole lot of liberals are falling in line. Even if it was a culture war, so what? This would be a war worth fighting. What are we even doing here, people? Get it together.

People have always had abortions and they always will. Despite setbacks (and yes, there are MANY, I won't lie), there remains a beautiful, aboveground system of funding and practical support for abortion. Experienced folks can and will help you get an abortion if you need them. It is not illegal!
