Ruhrdeutsch is the regional dialect spoken by the locals in the Ruhr Area (sometimes also referred to as the "Ruhrpott"), where #LL16 will be hosted.

Today, one in five kids in Germany will start their lives in bi/multilingual homes.

The collapse of regimes, the collapse of industries, the collapse of walls; all these have contributed to the transformation of our region into what it has become today (and our logo!). More next week. Stay tuned!

in Germany lived in our state. While many guest workers did return home, those who chose to build a life here contributed their languages to a changing regional identity. When the mine shut down permanently in 1986, generational multilingualism was already firmly established in the Ruhrgebiet.

Our brilliant designer very much understood the assignment. The elements of the new logo incorporate the iconic architectural style of Essen's UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Zeche Zollverein. This former coal mine perfectly captures the theme of collapse & transformation seen throughout the region.
