ICOS celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year, but some of our stations have around for decades before this. Long-term #greenhousegas measurements are needed to analyse both long-term #climate trends and extreme events. 🌎🌪️

Long-term greenhouse gas measurements are the cornerstone of climate science
The ICOS network was founded in a little more than a decade ago, but many of its measurement stations have served scientists long before this. Long-term greenhouse gas measurements are needed to analy...

For the first time we were able to use OCS fluxes as a a proxy for photosynthesis in Helsinki and showed how it can be used to partition anthropogenic and biogenic components from the net CO2 fluxes. (Tulevat) kuntapäättäjät hoi!

Ota haltuun tutkittuun tietoon perustuva kooste monihyötyisistä ilmastotoimista, jotka samalla edistävät kuntien pitovoimaa, laadukasta arkea, kuntalaisten terveyttä ja osallisuutta.

Land surface model comparison on simulating urban biogenic carbon fluxes has now been published. The study highlights how LSMs can simulate urban vegetation while also showcasing the extensive observations we have conducted in Helsinki. W @liisakulmala.bsky.social bg.copernicus.org/articles/22/...
Carbon sequestration in different urban vegetation types in Southern Finland
Abstract. Many cities seek carbon neutrality and are therefore interested in the sequestration potential of urban vegetation. However, the heterogeneous nature of urban vegetation and environmental co...

Storm #Éowyn has set new wind speed records for Ireland as potential sting jet hits the west coast (mean wind 37.5 m/s & gust 50.8 m/s).

The location of the maximum winds and the satellite appearance of #Éowyn match with the conceptual model of a sting jet.

Check out our new preprint on Geoscientifc Model Development on SLUrb, a single-layer urban canopy model for PALM. SLUrb allows for representing urban surfaces with non-building-resolving grids in PALM, extending PALM's urban capabilities to O(10 m) resolutions.
