@audreywatters.bsky.social writes eloquently about GenAI's regurgitation of existing text: "Generative “AI” is a backlash against any of the progress we’ve made in making space for other words, other images, other stories, other bodies, better futures." 2ndbreakfast.audreywatters.com/the-last-word/

Given this data in PS, I'm not sure how or why, in good conscience, so many PhD-granting programs exist in #PoliticalScience. The programs listed in the <5% table (Table 3.D) should proactively warn prospective students about their likely job prospects.

My friend Constanza introduced me to Freddie a while back. He attends a virtual reading group I organize sometimes, and I can affirm that Freddie brings enormous energy, passion, and gratitude to everything he does. You should bring him to your campus! 💜

"'They’re spending more money than I would even tax them,' [Mamdani] said in an interview with MSNBC last week."

This is the message. Make it clear that these billionaires aren't just worried about losing money. They're worried about losing the ability to exchange their money for power.

This is so deeply evil, cruel, and cannot possibly be legal.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

I haven't read this book, but I feel like this summary gives Maurice a *bit* too much of a pass on his hubristic assumption that isolation at sea was a good thing.

Those in #HigherEd who push genAI tools uncritically need the look closely at the ways our national mental health crisis can be accelerated with these tools. Normalizing the use of ChatGPT et al. can make it all the easier for Ss to anthropomorphize the tools, to their detriment.
NEW: "The company’s estimates therefore suggest that every seven days, around 560,000 people may be exchanging messages with ChatGPT that indicate they are experiencing mania or psychosis." @lmatsakis.bsky.social reports: www.wired.com/story/chatgp...

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000
