I write the newsletter Flop Era. Former senior editor at Scary Mommy. Words previously in WaPo and NYT. Probably buying nonsense.
Last night I desperately needed a laugh and I turned to the only thing I knew could do it without question: I Love Lucy. And, for a solid hour, Lucy and her merry band of misfits delivered gifts.

No.
AI can be used to automate tasks—and entire jobs. But it could also be designed to collaborate with humans. David Autor and James Manyika on why we should focus on the latter:

Every time I read some AI mouthpiece spouting AI nonsense I think to myself "Did I really buy into this bullshit when they did this for social media??" Because everyone is so clearly full of shit

Making $142K and living in a rent-controlled apartment when people are in homeless shelters with salaries close to $100K in NYC, it has to be addressed. Isn't this really a battle between two nepo babies? And one who walked the streets, shaking hands like it wasn't? Am I missing something?
Hakeem Jeffries says of Cuomo's attacks on Mamdani for living in a rent controlled apartment: "It's a legitimate issue that has been raised, and the [Mamdani] campaign is going to have to address it."

Today I revisited HRC's speech at the UN Conference for Women in Beijing, and it's still a banger. Which fucks me up that it's almost all still relevant and, in many ways, we're even farther away than we were 30 years ago

California surgical center staff demanded a warrant when ICE tried to snatch a landscaper. Now DHS is falsely accusing them of assault. Sure—nurses assaulted armed, masked thugs with clipboards🙄. This is retaliation for standing up & exercising free speech.

Newspapers really were a wild idea.

“I want to know what the president said yesterday.”

“We’ve got you.”

“And what a local grandpa thinks about it.”

“Still got you.”

“Anyone know what the fall fashions are?”

“Still. Got. You.”

“Hey what’s Charlie Brown up to?”

“You’ll never believe this.”

As a Pennsylvanian, this mind-melted, blue collar-cosplaying ogre baby needs to get bent and resign immediately
Posted just as ICE and the military began storming a farm and snatching farm workers in California.

Speechless.

Maybe the Democrats’ answer to Republicans stripping healthcare away from Americans and driving up everyone’s costs, should be guaranteeing everyone healthcare and driving down everyone’s costs — while cutting spending by $650B per year?

NEW: Federal agents rolled into MacArthur Park in LA in an unmarked armored vehicle.

My source tells me Mayor Bass showed up with LAPD—and the so-called “agents” got the hell out.

Shady AF!

If I may add: This was the Old Way of the internet before VCs, and social feeds, all the money showed up. Before Buzzfeed cheapened everything. Be YOU, have something to say, no product lists, no streaming guides, no rankings. The internet is dying because it is boring

I've been extremely depressed about AI. I started a daily convo with my husband where I rage-share a single story about AI. Today, though, I see a northern star. It could be temporary, but I see its glimmer. The point is be so dramatically you in your writing, no way can a robot write it

The Trump administration is pissed over CNN’s report on ICEBlock, a real-time “early warning” app that alerts users when ICE is in the area.

Now DHS is threatening legal action against CNN and wants to prosecute the app’s creator.

I downloaded it.

I am reading this thing about a writer using AI to find comp titles for the book they wrote. Are people insane? How are you not READING YOUR OWN GENRE so you already know your comp titles?

I didn't watch the Trump announcement last night, but I did see a 3 second clip of Trump and his mutants at table 9 walking to the podium. And, y'all, this ragtag presentation for the group project is a fail. Not a literate MF in the bunch.
