Are we talking in libraryland about the amount of garbage we now get when we put in any sort of reasonable search into our common (Proquest/EBSCO) interfaces?
In terms of relevant results for the exact same search, Google Scholar is far outpacing the databases we pay $$$$$ for in EVERY instance.📚

Curtailing people’s ability to read widely and carefully, to locate, assess, and compare different sources for themselves, and to write in their own voice about what they find and what it means, is arguably more effective than censorship. It is also one of the most obvious effects of generative AI.

Research librarian confessions: of the 6 research consults I've had this week, my first step for 5 of them has been Google Scholar.
And it's worked way better than the subscription databases.

Could only attend virtually this year, but really enjoying how Ruha Benjamin is complicating what appears to be a lot of "let's throw AI at it" content scheduled for the next few days of the conference. #ACRL2025

Also having major brain fog - like I know I spent time with friends at ACRL in 2019, I know I enjoyed myself, but trying to remember who I saw and who's even in libraries anymore is proving mega challenging.

Preliminary results from the Denver Basic Income Project that's providing cash to hundreds of unhoused people for one year using the first 6 months of data:
• NO ONE receiving $1,000/mo still sleeping outside
• Full-time employment increased
• Fewer visits to the ER
• Fewer nights spent in jail
