When Michael Sam got drafted to the NFL, I watched his preseason performance like a hawk. The stats were there for him to be an asset to any team, but he was cut. For years after, I continued to rant any time it came up about how he deserved better. (This is going somewhere, I promise.)

I’ve been trying to use Threads less and I don’t think anything has been more motivating than the comments section looking like a cross between the worst parts of Twitter and Facebook

People get so mad in the replies on social media when even medical professionals call out how GLP-1s have proven it wasn’t about diet for a lot of folks. It’s almost like there’s an entire industry/culture that is built on ableist ideology around agency and self control in health outcomes /s

One major misunderstanding with chronic illness is that people with one “get sick” all the time. I used to hear it all the time when I was having bad endo flares - people said I was “always coming down with something.” No, my uterus was just trying to eat me alive and I didn’t want to be awake?

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Covid diaries, day 3: I went from a fever every 24 hours to a fever every 8-12 hours. I also developed a fun wet cough tonight. I had to give up and take NyQuil for some hope of sleeping. Tomorrow begins mucinex day to purge the mucus in my chest. Also still don’t recommend this to anyone?

We made it 5 years without COVID in our house. It was a good run, team 🫡 we did our best and what took us down was what I find to be the most obvious mode of transmission - 1:1 or small space interaction with someone who is unknowingly positive

Today’s the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday— a pivotal point in the Selma movement for Black Americans’ freedom rights, directly resulting in the necessary pressure for passage of the Voting Rights Act, crippled by SCOTUS in 2013. There’s a straight line from that decision to today’s hell. 1/x

At one point I was hopeful that Newsom’s sheer hatred of republicans and ruthlessness was going to help lead us out of this mess somehow, but alas, he’s just your run of the mill sociopath*

*had Charlie Kirk on his podcast and posed for a chummy picture with him

Over the past few years, Brittany has noticed the resurgence the R-word - a word that otherwise left the cultural lexicon. And while that's troubling in and of itself, its return may also have larger ...

I knew this would happen, but it's still surreal to hear another nation's leader talk to us in a televised address the way US presidents have historically spoken to the citizens of countries led by dictators and despots.
Trudeau: "I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally. We don't want to see you hurt either. But your government has chosen to do this to you. As of this morning, markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically."
