This semester I learned how central nutrition is to someone's health. Introducing future patient's to a certified provider is always important as well. I learned how easy it is for people that are unqualified to create their own diets or share misinformation. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This sounds so good! I love how it uses 3 different leftovers and also gives helpful guidelines on how to properly store them.

I was most excited to eat stuffing this thanksgiving! It has been a family recipe for so long but there are no exact measurements. I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving :)

This is such a good point. We don't always know what someone else is going through or what might have caused their weight change. This was a good reminder to check my own assumptions and be more thoughtful towards others! ❤️
when you compliment weight loss, you might be complimenting:

- an eating disorder
- addiction
- depression
- disease
- trauma

we are conditioned to view all weight loss as intentional and positive, and this framing can be harmful. try to reflect on your bias about this.

For Tom, changing his eating habits seemed inconvenient + unrealistic. I love that he started adding a Chick Fil A salad into his rotation bcs it had personal value and was a healthier swap. This shows how healthy eating plans/diets should be personalized for everyone.

This is so so sad 😓 While it might seem like a harmless joke to some, these words can really impact a child's self confidence and the way they see their body. Over time, these jokes can contribute to mental health struggles that no one should ever go through.
every time a child tells me that they’re insecure about their body because other kids call them “big back” i die a little inside 🫠

People talk abt another's body w/o understanding the impact of their words. James Corden said fat shaming isn't 'tough love', it's harmful to individual's mental health and is bullying. As a community member I will advocate for those facing these harmful words. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Finding the time to grocery shop is a huge barrier in my healthy eating journey. I love this article because it offers realistic tips like stocking up on staples, especially when they're on sale. Taking a little time to prepare now can make healthier choices seem more manageable and approachable.

A lack of time to plan/shop/prepare healthy foods is a barrier to healthful eating in my life.
Between commuting + school + work + personal life, some days I'm soo tired & it's hard to make time to go grocery shopping or make a healthy meal.

I love how this provides so many food options for each color of the rainbow. Making sure to have a diverse selection of foods is a great way to maximize nutrient intake!
I personally would love to try eating more blue/purple foods like pomegranates and blueberries. 🫐

I take extra Vitamin C during winter bcs of antioxidant properties + I heard that it helps prevent common cold. I never knew that there were different daily recommendations based on age + we get most Vita C naturally in food.

Pumpkin pie is super delicious but it's easy to forget just how many other ways that pumpkin can be used. It's a seasonal produce option that is abundant and is a source of many vitamins and other nutrients. It's also a fun way to get into the fall vibes. 🎃🍂👩‍🍳

So interesting! Melted cheese is naturally appealing because of real chemical reactions. Interesting that highly processed foods are created to mock the same satisfying tastes and textures, without the real cooking process -> additives, extra salt, sugar, and fats to recreate the appeal.
Someone asked why melted cheese tastes so much better...I love these Qs, it's food science we take for granted!
Melting breaks down fats and proteins to release umami + aroma/flavour compounds. The gooey texture spreads to the tastebuds better + the Maillard reaction creates that toasty flavour.

Exactly! One sweet treat doesn't ruin a healthy eating journey. Building good habits and a healthy relationship with food is the most important.
Cinnamon buns: part dessert, part stress relief. If you’re eating one today, don’t overthink it. Enjoy it! Nutrition isn’t ruined by a pastry. It’s built on habits, not single moments. #RealWorldNutrition #FoodWithoutGuilt #CinnamonWins

I love pasta w/ butter, spinach and cheese. I'll try using whole grain pasta + adding chicken for lean protein + zucchini to make it a more nutrient dense meal. I could also swap butter -> olive oil. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I am definitely guilty of skipping breakfast most days! Sometimes I forget that breakfast can be something simple like yogurt + toast + fruits but it could also be something more convenient like leftovers or a soup.

Somewhat accurate when tracking, hard to estimate sauce amts or what was in foods I ordered.
It was exam week for me so it was super interesting to see how many snacks I had instead of proper meals! 🍭😅
I don't think this 1 day represents my overall habits though.

I think it is so important to educate people the types of fats and how the contribute to an individual's overall health. Ex: unsaturated fats like avocado oil are better for you than trans-hydrogenated fats that appear in many man made foods.

on fitness social media, phrases like this especially can really shape how people view food! it can make someone feel like they need to look or eat a certain way just fit in or be healthy. this mindset can ruin the enjoyment and social aspect that comes with eating.
“food is just fuel” is a popular saying in the fitness world. and sure, food can be fuel, but it can also be so much more.

food can be a way to connect with other people, cultures, and our memories.

you don’t have to moralize foods or punish yourself for enjoying them.

When looking for nutrition sources I'll cross reference popular press sources with other peer reviewed materials such as systematic reviews. Often popular press picks certain aspects of a study that are interesting and will get views, instead of covering the full story!
