I know that a lot of N Americans prefer to be called Indians for whatever reason, and it is very confusing. I hate it, especially because I'm brown and often get confused with N Americans when I tell them I'm Indian. I have gotten compared to Pocohontas before, and that's neither fair to me or her.
Do Native Americans want to be called Indians? I find the term often confusing, as it conflicts with Indians from India.
Sure you could say American Indian but how do you know they're not talking about an American Indian with Indian ancestry from India?
