A few days after the 2024 general election, I wrote that it felt as if the grownups were back in charge. It wasn’t as if I was carried away by the vision of Keir Starmer or the charisma of Rachel Reeves. More that I felt we had regained a basic level of competence. That politics would become business as usual rather than the breathless psychodrama of the past 10 years. You could go to bed at night relatively confident that the country would be more or less recognisable when you woke up. There would be no more mad people doing mad things as we raced through five or six news cycles in the course of a couple of hours. And part of me was a little concerned. Because what is good for economic stability and social justice isn’t necessarily good for a sketch writer. Dull, well-intentioned politicians putting in place dull, well-intentioned policies, and a government that is ticking over more or less OK, do not necessarily make for great entertainment. Calling Reformers "fascists" isn't hyperbole.

Its an accurate descriptor for ethno-nationalists who want to create an apartheid system within the UK.
Reform UK has hired Matt Goodwin, a former academic who has argued that people born in the UK from ethnic minority backgrounds are not automatically British, as honorary president of its new student wing. Reform announced Goodwin as honorary president of Students4Reform at its launch on Monday. In an interview with Michael Gove, editor of The Spectator, the GB News presenter said that being English is “an ethnicity that is deeply rooted in a people that can trace their roots back over generations”. Goodwin said “it is a different identity from Britishness” and that someone could identify as British, but not be English. The day after a man carried out a knife attack on people travelling on Doncaster-London train, Goodwin said “mass uncontrolled immigration” was to blame. Another social media user challenged his comments, pointing out that Anthony Williams, who was charged, and another black man who was arrested and later released, were both born in the UK. However, in my experience, capitalism would rather give one person a 56 hour week than two people a 28 hour week.

At least 15 NHS trusts have stopped all or part of their referrals, while another 31 introduced stricter referral criteria, leaving thousands of people without access to diagnosis or treatment. Recent figures show that half a million people are waiting for assessments. An independent ADHD task force has recommended that GPs play a bigger role in ADHD care. ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – is believed to affect about 5% of children and 3-4% of adults.
