Fix your hearts or die.
If you want to come to me all proud that you've spotted a "definite" use of ChatGPT, and your evidence is that "it has those really long dashes," I would kindly ask you to bark up a different tree.

I just learned that the card used to play Suck & Blow in Clueless is an REI membership card.

This fact will now become my entire personality.

What a culturally tone-deaf marketing email subject line, Chrome Industries.

Sometimes it's fun to pinpoint the reason you know something (a song, a fact, a person...).

Today I used the word "sclera." I realized I know it because of an essay in Penn & Teller's 1989 book Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends, in which Teller has an essay called "The Scleral Shells." Thanks, P&T.

Is there a job that is just listening to Lady Gaga's "Killah" on repeat for 8 hours a day? If so, I'll brush up my résumé.

I cannot explain this, but March and Wednesday are the same.

I would like to shake the hand of whoever added the photo captions on the Wikipedia page for Hitler Has Only Got One Ball.

“Wow,” I thought. “People sure love my Very Best Wrong Answer in my trivia league. It placed 8th in the vote and all these folks retweeted it.” *looks at the shares*

And that’s how I learned several other folks submitted this answer too. Nothing new under the sun blah blah blah…
8. What word, not a neologism but not in frequent use at the time, was popularized by Warren G. Harding in the US presidential election of 1920, with his promise to bring the country back to a calm social and political order after the turmoil of the Wilson years?

Every article I read about what businesses should consider before using generative AI has the same ridiculously obvious conclusion.

It reminds me of a gag in a Fry & Laurie sketch:
"Let me give a warning to any families planning to take poetry on holiday with them: Be careful."

YEAH, WE KNOW.

I live in Seattle, WA (Pacific time zone). My cell phone number is from New York, NY (Eastern time zone).

Every single time I call Aetna in the afternoon, I'm told I'm calling outside of business hours because they're only open until 6pm in "my" time zone.

GREAT JOB, ROBOTS.

I searched "Christmas bucket list" to get some activity ideas. (Trynna keep things jolly in a grim year, you know.) One list had mostly small, simple acts ("have a snowball fight," "make a wish list," "send Christmas cards").

I was not prepared for the jump in scale between ideas 48 and 50.

I googled "Freddie Powell," a participant on Love Is Blind UK and, of course, google tossed up an AI Overview.

Please enjoy the image google's AI used to illustrate who Freddie's ex-fiancée "Cat" is.

NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS GARBAGE, GOOGLE.

As a reminder, it’s never too early to watch Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, a truly perfect piece of televisual entertainment if ever there was one.

Will you look at that, I was hunting for a list such as this just this morning. Some things to consider in here for sure.
Right. Here's your to-do list for the next two months to put you in the best possible position to survive what's coming:

1. Renew your passport (or apply for a passport) this week even if it is not expiring in the next four years. Renewing early will give you the maximum 10-year validity period.

I found this bonus newsletter from @hankgreen.bsky.social (via We're Here) to be useful today, particularly the C.S. Lewis quote.

Maybe it'll help you to read it as well.

In my limited experience, two perfect concert films are Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live and Stop Making Sense.

What others do I need to watch?

My company's internal communications platform (Firstup) is configured to disguise concerning language with music notes.

I gotta wonder: Is "old bag" really being used an inflammatory context THAT OFTEN in the year of our lord 2024 such that this is on the screen list?

At last night's Salon of Shame, the evening ended with "Lucas with the Lid Off." I haven't heard this song in two decades but it is woven into the folds of my brain: I knew ALL OF IT. I just watched the video (Michel Gondry directed it) and that is incredibly familiar too.

Come, remember with me!

Hang on, do people who don't intentionally crack their knuckles just walk around with tight-feeling joints all the time?

(Related: Since my right ring finger was splinted for 6 weeks this summer, I can no longer pop the middle knuckle and it is INCREDIBLY distracting.)

Just when you thought the 🤤 emoji couldn’t get worse, you look at all the other designs for it on Emojipedia. SOME OF THEM ARE ANIMATED. Some of them are disembodied heads sitting in a pool of their own spit.

Tell me a compliment you were given a long time ago that you still think about (and get satisfaction from).

I think about this a lot when I give compliments to other people (it reminds me to be specific). Is what I'm saying going to be something they come back to when they need a boost of pride?

I led my team in a couple rounds of Codenames yesterday, which we played via a Teams call. It worked so well! If you're looking for a game to play with your remote team members, I recommend.

Here's what we did:
1) We used the official (and free) online version (no accounts/login required).

I accidentally bought Raspberry Zinger instead of Red Zinger so instead of delightful hibiscus notes my herbal tea tastes like a goddamn Bath & Body Works.

Happy Monday.

I saw Hadestown for the first time last night. I loved it! But after the umpteenth round of Orpheus singing his falsetto tune, I leaned over to my dude and whispered, "He's the hated milk machine," and we both lost it.
