Likewise. There were, and are, a number of us, and our record of calling Trumpism—his win in ‘16, slow-motion coup of ‘20, he’d use indictments to his advantage, he’d flat out win ‘24—is a lot stronger than the pundits still speaking, at this late hour, of norms or “outside the box.”
I have said since Trump starting laying the groundwork for the Big Lie in the first part of 2020 that he would not leave office willingly. I have been correct so far. And I'm telling you again he will not leave office willingly. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

If you believe Trump is joking about wanting to become a dictator after everything we've lived through -- including a failed coup attempt! -- I do not know what to tell you. He has also been lying about his poll numbers for his entire career. None of this should be surprising.
The transcript of this interview is worth spending time with. When NBC's Kristen Welker was on the phone with Trump, she started out by saying "I know you're joking about this," but "I've been talking to a lot of your allies. They say they're very serious." He responded by essentially confirming it.

2 thoughts re: this interview:

1) Anyone who has dealt with an addict (or been one) knows they lie, constantly, first to themselves (“I can quit any time, nobody knew I was drinking” etc) and then to everyone else.

2) Fame, or maybe “relevance,” is an addiction.
