Same vibes as KR Ryuki's "Bullshit Artist"

May be just me, but I found myself enjoying Higurashi a lot despite having read Umi first.

It was cool to see how ideas were being developed amd knowing where they would go.

Like characters debating the mystery afterwards, which became a core of Umineko's Questions Arc

Objectively shitty may have been strong wording. But it is that aspect of her and how Meakashi sticks to that characterization until her final realization that makes it so good.

Even Ryukishi himself highlights this in the staff room. Asking the player if they sympathize with her despite everything

Shion is my favorite Higu character, and she does grow as a person after the chapter. But in Meakashi itself. She is a deeply flawed individual, victim blaming Satoko.

I like the game doesnt try to excuse these things, but asks you to "see her with love" despite her at times glaring flaws.

I do love how the narrative does admit that she's this shitty and flawed person. Victim blaming Satoko in her love for Satoshi.

The game doesnt hide or deflect her bad side, but asks you to sympathize anyways.

Meakashi does such a good job of just making the reader pity and sympathize with an objectively shitty person.

It really does ask you to try and look at them with love, despite their glaring flaws.

They need to reach the parents argument. Thats the hook to reel people in.

Honestly, one benefit to reading Umineko first is you do get to them see the seeds of it in Higurashi.

The ideas and elements that Umineko later expands on.

Fun fact: One streamer had Sakutaro as an emote.

5 years later they play Uminekp and crash out at this scene and the realization hit.

I think you may need to change a setting. It says I cannot message you.

May I message you in DMs about details?

Can never read Pride & Prejudice. Its just about rich people and their problems.
November 17, 2025 at 5:12 PM
Plus the rich people problems are "family's patriarchal system leaves me unable to prove my worth or succeed"

I feel like late 20s/early 30s since he was still military age.

I feel like 40s is past that being viable.

I didnt know he was that old in the flashback
Battler sprite always made me think he was like 28.
November 13, 2025 at 6:11 PM
Its there, but not as prominently when compared to Umineko

I feel lile Higurashi leans more into "plight and struggle of youth in this unkind world, trying to make sense of it"

But it does definitely have the seeds for the feminist themes that bloom in Umineko

I was able to get it *right* before it went out of print.

Feel so lucky that I did.

Though did mean I had to miss out on the VOTOMS blu ray
