The ‘Shell Mosaic’ from Verulamium (Roman St. Albans). Dating to around 150 CE, the mosaic is now part of the collections at the excellent Verulamium Museum in St. Albans.

The Isaac Memorial in Bristol Cathedral. John Isaac was enslaved by local slaveowner Thomas Daniel (1799-1872). This plaque was commissioned by his descendants. Unveiled in 2024, it counters the august Daniel Family Window of 1877. Nearby a large display addresses Thomas Daniel's role in slavery.

I'm a City of London Guide. Recently I visited Bristol, in order to take a break from the City and London generally. Hilly Bristol has several long stairways. On the first morning I walked down the Christmas Steps, which were one minute's walk from my accommodation on Colston Street. 1 of 2.

Bristol Cathedral garden contains this 1980 sculpture by Naomi Blake. 'Refugee' is subtitled 'To the victims of all racial persecutions'. Naomi Blake (1924-2018) was a survivor of Auschwitz.
