We also have utility and right-of-way infrastructure requirements, especially for larger projects. And permitting fees.

Also, new larger housing developments are often required to build sidewalks, plant trees and other right of way improvements, and install new utility lines, all of which provide public benefits and/or save taxpayers from having to do those.

This election is all about getting out the vote. As Katie’s campaign says “this is your city.” Local elections are where we can make a real difference. And yet we know that younger voters and renters - who are most impacted by the lack of affordability - are also the least likely to vote.

@buildhomes.bsky.social in addition to sales taxes and property taxes, there is often real estate excise tax, as new housing development often results in property sales (both before and after construction). There’s also jobs from construction. And MFTE and MHA both provide affordable housing.

I went Thursday evening and it was a trickle in comparison. the difference is so stark!
