Really interesting article and important history to remember.
I also find it interesting that we found a way to cut sales taxes to spur the construction of offices for tech, but we haven’t yet eliminated sales taxes for the construction of housing.

Not impressed with this ad.
Reminds me of Nancy Reagan’s “just say no” to drugs campaign. It’s an oversimplification of a complex problem, as if all we need to do is to “say no” to homelessness.

First day of #weekwithoutdriving, took my dog on light rail to doggie daycare and then light rail up to Northgate. I got to walk across the John Lewis Memorial Bridge. Felt special as I helped SDOT negotiate real property agreements with Seattle Colleges and WSDOT on this bridge project years ago.

Today, for example, I got to knock doors in the morning, spent the afternoon down at the lake talking to folks, and then this evening a neighbor was doing home-made shave ice in his front yard. I had great conversations and was able to collect vouchers in each setting!

Also, I’ve been calling for increasing the exemption level for small businesses since the first community forum back in January. This came up recently on Hacks and Wonks when I suggested that there should be an exemption for less than $1M in revenue.

Pretty excited about the new Cheryl Chow Park off Rainier. It’s great for families and many of the elders living nearby. A bit biased because I helped Parks acquire some of the property 7-8 years ago. Pics from grand opening.

Representation matters!!! For so many reasons, including voter turnout. District 2 has the lowest voter turnout, especially from the more diverse neighborhoods. And currently there are no AANHPI members on Seattle City Council, despite being the largest minority group. This needs to change.

Gun violence has been on the rise in Seattle, and sadly youth homicides and violence have been rising most recently. South Seattle (District 2) is being impacted the most.
