Visited mum's grave today, these pretty purple flowers were flourishing and the sun was shining right on her. She would have loved that. She would also have known the name of the flowers, unlike me.

My mum, a super keen gardener, died earlier this year. This week, the rose bush in my front garden starting flowering for the first time in 20 years. I know it's not connected, probably, but it made me smile. Then cry. Then smile again.

Sad to hear of the death today of Arnold Yarrow at the age of 104. Best known to #DoctorWho fans as Bellal of course, but a fine and varied career. Also a lovely fella by all accounts.
