Why, it's almost like having rich people paying their fare share is good for everyone!
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

Where are the safeguards against a lunatic doing this kind of destruction? He’s just gone ahead? IT IS NOT HIS HOUSE!!

President Trump is plowing ahead with plans to build a grand ballroom where the East Wing of the White House currently stands. The plans have not gone through the committee tasked with overseeing such projects.

Public protests are now anti-American, per the GOP.
Mike Johnson: "We're so angry about it. I mean, I'm a very patient guy, but I've had it with these people. The theory we have right now -- they have a hate America rally that's scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It's the pro-Hamas wing and antifa people ... "

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

Florida is hostile territory- hope they can stay ❤️
For more than five decades, the Stonewall National Museum, Archives and Library in Florida has chronicled the LGBTQ community by collecting and sharing its history. But the museum is facing a hostile political environment and a financial crisis that may force it to find another home.

Hope the next president tears down all the tackiness and gross embellishments as soon as possible. I guess he is showing the world how a truly awful American can’t help the poor or the homeless but loves to show off disgusting focus on himself.

We are living in a (R) nightmare.
Fortune writes an entire story about Sinclair's effort to ban Kimmel "to protect communities" without making a SINGLE reference to Sinclair's long history of airing election fraud conspiracy theories and medical disinformation
Sinclair reveals that it asked ABC to create a CBS-like ombudsman while backing down on Jimmy Kimmel suspension
Sinclair said that removing Kimmel was free speech itself and it’s “inconsistent to champion free speech while demanding that broadcasters air specific content.”

I've had to explain to young queer folk why some straight female pop stars were "gay icons" - and how the point was that it was people who stood up or spoke out for us back when that actually cost them something. (And so why I don't think it applied in more recent times.)

So, good on her.

Hope has been dashed for today ;(
Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

the thing I love about Zohran’s campaign is that instead of “this place fucking sucks and I alone can fix it” his message is “being a New Yorker rules, we live in the best city in the world, let’s make it even better together”
