Once again, Trump ignores the Republican states with the highest homicide rates, and instead targets blue states, blue cities, and Black leaders. Trump hasn’t threatened to bring his authoritarian spectacle to any red states. If this was truly about crime, he’d start there.

The point of putting the military on the streets in cities isn’t to “clean up” those cities, it’s to heighten tension in the hopes that somebody takes a shot at them and gives an excuse for invocation of the insurrection act.
