Living in Texas means still having to cut the grass in November, but at least I can rep Green Mount Cemetery and Junius Brutus Booth while I do so.

That’s a neat piece but, sadly, not an original playbill. After the assassination, there were printers who made and sold fraudulent playbills. This is an example of one made by L. Brown. Compare the details to a real playbill printed by H. Polkinhorn (the printer used by Ford’s Theatre).

Did I stay up late binge watching Death By Lightning? You bet I did. What a great limited series about President Garfield and his tragic death at the hands of Charles Guiteau. I’ve actually seen the bottle containing part of Guiteau’s brain and his skeleton in person. #skystorians

Edwin Booth’s saving of Robert Todd Lincoln at a train depot in 1864 is an interesting story, and I’m all for telling people about it, but don’t use generative AI for your illustrations. Otherwise you get images like this where Robert Lincoln has an extra arm coming out of his ass. #NoAI

The page after the Lincoln assassination one is this image which I thought at first was the inside of Ford’s Theatre but the people appear to be celebrating. So I’m assuming this is their take on Grant’s inauguration: archive.wul.waseda.ac.jp/kosho/bunko1...

Thanks to @illimij.bsky.social for verifying this image depicts Abraham Lincoln’s assassination as a stabbing at the theater, rather than a gunshot by John Wilkes Booth. It comes from a set of Japanese volumes about the life and world tour of U.S. Grant: archive.wul.waseda.ac.jp/kosho/bunko1... 🗃️

Any #skystorians out there fluent in #kanji? I’m looking for someone to translate this page from an 1879 #Japanese book about President Ulysses S. Grant celebrating his life and travels. I think the page shows Lincoln’s assassination (or perhaps a fictitious attempt on Grant’s life). Help!

I think you’re absolutely right. Good eye!

So cool! I hope you saw lots of goodies! Yesterday, I was just looking at what I expect is one of the last photographs of taken of Edwin before his death in that room.

The real photoshop was how they took took an image of John Wilkes Booth in profile and then added a derringer and dagger into his hands. 🗃️

Each episode of Fractured Flickers also had a guest interview with host Hans Conried. Rod Serling appeared as the guest on Oct. 17, 1963, playfully answering the scripted questions about The Twilight Zone and writing. @thetwilightzonepodcast.com

Fractured Flickers was a Jay Ward comedy show from 1963 dubbing over silent film clips. Here they lampoon how TV studios work with a clip of an aristocrat as a producer. Into the scene comes writer “Rob Sterling” clearly a parody of Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling. @rodserlingmemfndtn.bsky.social

I’m very sad to see Muppet*Vision 3D close at Disney World. But I feel very lucky to have been able to visit and share it with my family last month before it was gone for good.

I know I missed a few TZ references but we only rode it twice so I did the best I could. Sadly, nothing in the connected gift shop says Twilight Zone on it. But I did find a bonus Rod Serling from @thenightgallery.bsky.social on the wall of the Pop Century Resort. 7/7

The Twilight Zone nature of the ride is also present during the ride before the drop.

Here’s the pre-show video that you watch in the library before making your way to the elevators. It features a posthumous appearance of Rod Serling narrating the events at the hotel. 4/7
