Remember when the Internet could go for weeks or even months without a major outage? That was cool.

It's almost like we've unlearned how to do this right. In the past couple weeks: AWS, Azure, Cloudflare… git at GitHub is currently down.

Keep this in mind as we start seeing more and more large scale outages from AWS, Cloudflare, Github, etc. These are the companies hoping to increasingly automate their systems with AI

Cloudflare and GitHub being down in the same day 🙃
I'm wouldn't be surprised if all these outages turn out to be cause they tried replacing devs with IA

So if Olivia is 32 now, broke up with Lizza last year, was together with him for a decade, and then was living with you for 4+ years before that, how old was she when you moved her out of her (presumably parents’) house in the suburbs to live with you?
Btw about this from Lizza's reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b'days, 4 Xmases, 4 anniversaries). That's like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. And her apartment was a writing studio. And I made an f-ton then. What was I supposed to do? Get her a lot of Gift Certificates from Kmart?

I've seen organizers saying three short whistles when you see ICE and people need to be alert; long whistles when they're taking someone and a crowd needs to gather.

For Charlotte friends who want to prepare, we made our little whistle station with a plastic planter (drainage in the bottom in case it rains), zip ties, and no-heat lamination paper

Do you live in the Charlotte area? Know someone who does? One of the most important things you can do is get a whistle & tell your family & friends & neighbors to do the same. If people blow their whistle when they see CBP that takes away CBP’s ability to surprise vulnerable people.

After the largest peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations in American history, and a blue wave election where voters clearly and loudly said FIGHT ALL OF THIS CHAOS, it is malpractice and disqualifying for an elected Democrat to suggest caving to Trump.

I'm looking in your direction, Chuck Schumer.

3x 30 second exposures stacked on phone, I think my laser fell out of alignment. I'll come back tomorrow for a better foreground. 🛰️

If you are a scientist or someone interested in science and are seeing the news stories about the passing of Watson, you need to read Lior's important compilation of Watson's statements that reveal him as the racist misogynist and eugenics supporter that we was 🧪
Scientific breakthroughs are rarely unique; someone else would’ve made them soon enough. But when prominent scientists cause harm, that harm isn’t inevitable; the world might simply have been better had the harm not been inflicted.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

That's unfair. It's only part of who James Watson was.

He was also incredibly sexist. Proper old-fashioned male academic S-Rank level grubby sexism.

You know. Saying that Rosalind Franklin could have been pretty if she'd tried. Calling her 'Rosy' even though she never used that name. That level.
