I just finished this. Not really what I expected, but interesting -- deals with how black folks used property and contract law before the civil rights era. Also law of association. Might be too much like work for you!

I remember seeing this bumper sticker on a car that was often near a discount store where my mom shopped. Kind of summed up the whole mood.
