Obscene. Why are we tolerating this extremity of wealth inequality? Something has to give—or be forced.

The thing about Johnson not swearing in Grijalva is that’s it a test for 2026.

If you think they will accept an outcome they don’t like, they will just Grijalva it.

So what’s the plan when the GOP says “we ain’t leaving, fuck you, make us.”

Because that IS what they are going to say.

Popok: The blue states and cities effectively brought the cases. The red states are suffering, and their AGs are sitting on the sidelines. There’s no red state that brought a case. Think about that: not one red state attorney general brought a case to help prevent starvation and suffering. None.

I post monthly about the jobs report and inflation…but since we haven’t had an actual report in months, I’m going to talk about how in the moonlit night of Halloween the Fed Reserve injected about $29 billion of liquidity into the banking system — the largest overnight operation since the pandemic.🧵

By summer it’ll probably be a good idea to have enough money at hand outside of your bank to survive for an extended period, have your passports or travel docs in order, identify your nearest border crossing, and make arrangements for extended outdoor living situations. #3E

It's not in spite of these indicators, it's *because* of them. Affluence and ennui are powerful drivers of modern authoritatianism.
Still hard to believe we voted for fascism with unemployment at 4.2%, the strongest performing economy in the rich world, & inflation, at 2.4% PCE in Nov 2024, closer to target than 85% of the months since we established it in 2012: bsky.app/profile/mcop.... Verily, a marvel of political economy.
Here's each G7 country's cumulative increase in real GDP per capita, since just before the pandemic:

🇺🇸 +9.4%
🇮🇹 +6.5% (thru Q3)
🇯🇵 +3.1%
🇫🇷 +1.8% (thru Q3)
🇬🇧 -1.1%
🇩🇪 -1.9% (thru Q3)
🇨🇦 -2.0% (thru Q3)

I wouldn’t call this hilarious…
It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

So just to clarify for the poorly informed, Canada has some issues it is addressing but, as seen here the dark green out of 160 countries are the safest in... the... world. #Canada 🍁🇨🇦🍁

AP is banned from WH events and all the other legacy journalists walk right in.

If this was the 60s, we know who would have been with the Freedom Riders, and who would’ve been writing about them from a safe place.

AP stands alone.

Sad but true.

I'm no longer certain we can use universities as any yardstick here.
Perhaps we should look at Ortega's "The Revolt of the Masses." He seems to have witnessed an inverted society where the capable were demoted & the incapable took charge--leaving destruction as the limit of their imagination.

Where does the accumulated debt of this country come from?

It comes from Republican presidents.

So much for Republicans being the party of "fiscal responsibility"; they will gladly drive up the debt if it means they can pass a Tax Scam for their billionaire friends and corporations.
