Green Councillor for Stoke Newington ward, Hackney 🟢

Promoted by S Liberadzki on behalf of Liam Davis, c/o PO Box 78066, SE16 9GQ
Hackney has the second-worst rate of child poverty in London - 45%!

Diane Abbott voted for this (of course).

So Meg Hillier why didn’t you?
BREAKING: An SNP bid to scrap the two-child benefit cap has passed the first stage in the House of Commons.

The result was 89 Aye, 79 No - with the majority of Labour MPs abstaining.

We love Hackney, but it needs to work for all of us.

Rising rents. Mouldy homes. Foodbanks.

Zoë Garbett is running Mayor of Hackney to change that - with Dylan as Deputy.

But we need YOU.

RIP St Dominic's Primary.

Joined staff on their picket line alongside @liamzud.bsky.social , Hackney Independents & NEU ✊️

The school will close at the end of term. The staff have led an incredible campaign to try & save it which has loudly raised the alarm for other schools.

My climate emergency motion in 2018 came out of brilliant campaigning by so many Londoners.

It’s great the Mayor responded quickly and positively as that has led to clear net zero targets to which Green AMs continue to hold him accountable. Just five years left!

From my Green councillor colleague @liamzud.bsky.social calling out the Mayor of Hackney's statement.

All words. No action.

The situation in Palestine is horrifying and desperate. Hackney's residents, Green & Independent Cllrs have been pushing for the council to divest, blocked by Labour.

Green councillors took a stand with Hackney Independent Socialists against the undemocratic changes to the constitution

❌️Overriding residents' views
❌️Ignoring genocide
❌️Systematic housing failures
❌️Restricting democratic accountability
❌️'Savings' that really mean cuts!

"We are not going to come forward with a wealth tax"
Labour spelling it out for anyone who had any doubt.

Squarely in the corner of the richest. Refusing to tax assets & property anywhere near as high as they tax people in work. The poor will have to pay again.

People in overcrowded homes, using foodbanks & sleeping on the streets can't wait around for growth. They need change now.

I called on the Mayor of Hackney to be less grateful & more outraged at the lack of funding for local authorities & how this means continued cuts

Our Green motion tonight in Hackney calling to scrap the child benefit cap has been gutted by Labour into yet another ‘no money’ excuse. It’s now just a ‘maybe one day’.

Hackney has the 3rd worst child poverty rate in London.
The UK is among the worst nations in Europe for child poverty.

In the UK, 11% of 15-year-olds reported they had skipped a meal in 2022 because there wasn't enough money to buy food.

In the Netherlands and Finland, this number was 3%.

Tonight, Hackney Greens will table our budget amendment inc the reversal of Labour’s £500k cut to Hackney Carnival.

After clear scaling back post-pandemic, this event deserves investment - not an ice out. We’d work to bring it back to life with community groups at the heart.

Grateful to @carolinerussell.bsky.social for supporting us and raising the long-paused Stoke Newington gyratory plans with the Mayor. Residents and local businesses want answers after years of silence.

Thames Water have been allowed to add another £3 billion to their existing £19 billion of debt.

They've run up this bill by paying out huge amounts to bosses and shareholders instead of investing in our water infrastructure.

It's time for water to be run for people, not profit.

Spent the evening at Hackney Empire for Rise 365’s Memories 2025, remembering Robert Levy + every other young soul lost to knife violence in Hackney

Community is healing. Yet it alarms how much we increasingly rely on & expect from them to fill voids left by systemic failures

attack on the peaceful palestine march today by the cops is utterly unconscionable. videos of the violent arrests and testimony of those who were there stating cops have lied about being ‘pushed through’ must galvanise resistance and pushback against increasingly draconian tactics of the state.

Banning Section 21 evictions is overdue, but the Bill does almost zilch for affordability

You can now own a pet, but good luck finding a flat you can afford to rent

As we go through the first year of local council budget setting under a Labour Government - listen to all the locally elected Labour councillors who were calling out the awful austerity of the Tory Government and justifying cuts because of the "financial situation"

Feels the same to me.
