Jonny Smallwood @themindwanders.bsky.social was a beloved friend and mentor. He was taken from us too soon. His was a beautiful mind who understood the beauty of minds. As ever before, his kind voice guides me and his work will continue. We miss you Jonny. www.cbs.mpg.de/news/obituar...

A widespread view in psychology is that most cognitive processes are unconscious. In a new paper, I argue that many of these processes may evade consciousness for the same reason the "invisible gorilla" did: People fail to pay attention to them.

Invisible Gorillas in the Mind: Internal Inattentional Blindness and the Prospect of Introspection Training
Abstract. Much of high-level cognition appears inaccessible to consciousness. Countless studies have revealed mental processes—like those underlying our choices, beliefs, judgments, intuitions, etc.—w...

@pessoabrain.bsky.social drops knowledge on us. Neuron spiking is highly coordinated. Waves of electric field influences are a great way to do that.

Dignity is a very important ethical concept, but a dangerously fuzzy one, which puts into question whether and how we can honour our obligations to treat people with dignity! Our new study detangles dignity and respect, by showing dignity has specific ties to humiliation.

Excited about this new paper in Elife where we show for the first time resting state patterns contain information about a participants states (e.g. their thoughts) as well as traits (e.g. personality).

This paper is not that well cited, but still one of my favorite papers (I am not an author) showing that resting-state correlations (aka functional connectivity) is biologically meaningful.
