An introduction to starting a grassroots organisation with Glasgow Trans Collective - Exploring how GTC started their grassroots organisation, and how others could get involved or start their own groups to fill the gaps in what our community needs.

Starting on Sun 26th October, Intersex Awareness Day, the Council of Europe SOGIESC unit and OII Europe launched the #EuropeGoesPurple campaign where skylines and digital spaces will go purple to raise awareness about intersex people and the barriers they face, calling for equal rights across Europe

It was developed by national experts from Member States through an inclusive dialogue with civil society organisations and intersex persons. It is a testament to the years of campaigning by intersex persons, intersex organisations and LGBTQIA+ orgs across Europe to advance intersex human rights.

It includes provisions on safeguarding bodily autonomy, ending harmful non-consensual medical practices, substantive equality and non-discrimination, access to justice, sport, education, work, health and social care, private and family life, and hate crime.

The Recommendation builds on the European Convention on Human Rights and other existing standards to offer a comprehensive approach to addressing the various challenges faced by intersex people and to ensure effective protection of their human rights.

We have a big fight ahead for LGBTQIA+ equality and human rights, both in Scotland and in Europe, but organisations are coming together to mobilise and strategise to protect all of our rights. Thanks to all the incredible organisations who spoke to us and to ILGA for having us! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💪
