ECMWF 12z has taken a slightly easterly track for Wednesday's storm.

Interestingly, wind gusts (20 m/s) in the inland areas will blow from the east/northeast. This is probably the most atypical direction for windstorms and can mean more damage.

Greenland's gravity wave activity can be particularly large when a strong jet is flowing across it (as is currently the case). Current GFS 250 hPa (~flight level) wind analyses (via earth.nullschool.net) show evidence of gravity waves where the flight experienced the sudden drop.

Flight SK957 from ARN to MIA is returning to Europe after a sudden 8,000-foot drop in altitude over Greenland. Seems to be turbulence related – Greenland's high terrain can generate significant vertically-propagating gravity wave activity. www.flightradar24.com/data/flights...

Growing interest towards mid next week. An upper-level trough setting over Scandinavia may lead to a rapid development of a strong mid-latitude storm. Details still open.
