Well, seeing as the nation of Pou is meant to be a blend of Hawaii and Japan, naturally I took a bit of inspiration from both in terms of aesthetic.

There's a great frozen mountain at the center of Hyo, the book's setting, which is partially based on Mount Everest. Needless to say, I wind up conflating the two in my brain.

I made a map in MS Paint showing the second floor of Orathea castle, the seat of power in Elux. This isn't the ENTIRE second floor, mind you, just the part that seemed most relevant.

I'm not entirely sure what "expanding" worldbuilding means, but I have a notes/brainstorming document that I write ideas down in. Not everything I put there makes it into all of my books (and some info from it is actually outdated), but that's generally how I go about it.

Mythology and religion are primarily used in the Seeker Saga to establish the world and help set Theryl apart as a fantastical setting. It also serves as a source of inspiration and a lens with which to view each book's major themes.

As I've said before: I take a lot of inspiration from all of mythology, especially regarding where certain tropes and trends are used. However, I suppose #Greek myth is still probably the most influential on my work.

The Divines of Theryl are responsible for controlling the elements they embody. Ure controls the tide and allows for the existence of rain. Tsal directs the wind. Vashamala allows flames to spark and Golnesh forges the land itself.

Probably the most noteworthy initiation rite in Theryl in joining the Branded: a group of elite warriors who serve the fire god. To join their ranks, you must first prove yourself in combat. After which, the mark of Vashamala will be painlessly seared into your flesh.

Different nations have different holidays, but there are two considered to be fairly universal: The Turning Festival and the Festival of the Divines.
