Somewhat unexpectedly I discovered some mid-winter photos NOT taken on Esja, this was a 4x4 trip to Jökulheimar, a cabin in the middle of Iceland close to Vatnajökull. Taken on Nov. 24th, 2007

The obvious question is what to do for an encore? I think I'll continue to post picture of Icelandic nature but not limited to Esja. In winter there proibably won't be much difference (Esja being so close to Reykjavik) but expect to see pictures from other parts of Iceland come spring.

A rock ptarmigan. The size of the total population oscillates wildly but their number have been steadily dwindling so the hunting season (they are VERY good eating) has been shortened and commercial hunting banned. Nov. 18th, 2022

I seem to recall that something significant happened on this date in 1918, but my photos were taken 100 years later. The first one shows the morning view from my balcony, the others my hike up the mountain in the afternoon. Nov. 11th, 2018.
