Like The Iron Giant, it’s a movie that lands every emotional beat and earns each cheer and tear. The rare perfect 10 IMHO.

And the first 45 min of WallE. I spend time in my Animation class & my Concept Devel classes talking about the importance of visual communication, rather than dialogue or text. Hitchcock is great to illustrate that (obv started in silents) but I also use meeting the blind girl in City Lights.

Bob Roberts doesn’t get enough love.

Also, there are two closeups of my 15 year old face at the end of the movie. My one experience being an extra.

I don’t understand— why don’t they just go on to Spotify and choose music at random? They want music they haven’t heard without doing any work… that exists already!

I assume you would pick Girl Shy For Lloyd?
Which would be your Chaplin choice? I’d probably go Gold Rush but I think one could justify any of his silent features.

And not even a silent Chaplin!!
And def not his best.

Wait— there is Lizza, a Nuzzi, and an Izzi in this story?

Yes! I was disappointed by the Bayard Rustin movie. This is the balm I seek.

It reminds me of Spencer's Gifts in the mall. They had keychain fart machines and "your mama" joke machines. Now imagine if you could just keep hitting the "insult them harder!" button.

"But Grok goes to 11..."

The opening lines of this song are masterful:
They hung a sign up in our town
If you live it up you won’t live it down.
So she left Monte Rio, son
Just like a bullet leaves a gun…

Tom Waits is a king.

For me it’s Sucralose. Awful aftertaste.

I thought she was a lousy candidate in 2020 but she had clearly done a lot of work by 2024, came across as more natural, more charismatic, more credible. I do wonder if she might have done better with a less rushed campaign. Or maybe she would have never mustered the juice.

As a director of a Jewish film festival,
I cannot believe I am applauding the Pope’s articulation of what matters in film!

One of the best film adaptations of a great book, IMO

Seabiscuit. Couldn’t care less about horse racing, and yet I have never been so absorbed and riveted by a book. Incredible.

Sounds like the credits on a Tom Waits album.

Thile is IMHO one of the rarest breed of musicians who can play anything, any genre brilliantly. YoYo Ma in that category too. Not too many others.
These Bach recordings are breathtaking.

Gotcha. Thank you for explaining.

Why would a longer term have a higher rate? I would assume (having never taken an econ class) that the lender would want to entice people into the longer term since they will make more overall, and hence would offer a comparatively lower rate. Why is that wrong?

Epstein news is important of course, but can we pause to admire the Tucker Carlson demonic possession story?

I just watched The Human Condition a few months ago. He was so magnetic and what an actor.
