Maybe the only thing worse than:

First time watch: Hobson's Choice. Absolutely wonderful. I only knew Brenda de Banzie as the villain in The Man Who Knew Too Much (one of my favorite Hitchcocks) and she is so, so different here- I'm smitten. Great dialogue, great characters, great performances. Most fun movie I've seen in a while.

They put out a terrific DVD set with their wartime propaganda cartoons, including “Victory Through Air Power”. Some really great stuff in here, though of course many of the cartoons feature some gross anti Japanese racism.

I genuinely love that LED strip lights come on reels that are obviously made in molds repurposed from old Super8 reels.

Just read that Enzo Staiola passed away (to be honest, I had no idea he was still alive). A beautiful performance in Bicycle Thieves, one of those perfect movies that time, familiarity, and even excessive praise cannot dim in the slightest. I’m tearing up just thinking of it. Ciao, Bruno.

Feels eerily appropriate that today is the 160th anniversary of Lincoln’s assassination. I feel like something was killed in this country today, like we tripped across another major turning point of no return.

Finally got to see the academy museum in LA (overall meh, almost no history, though surprisingly had some experimental animation— Pitt, McLaren, Fischinger—on display) But there was a solid color (temp) exhibit. Showed lots of old tech, inc the machine used for cutting stencils. Always wondered how…
