In the process of writing my first YA novel. Follow me to see the journey unfold :) #author #writer
Been so stagnant with writing lately. Hoping to change this soon!

Last time we were here, Archie was a potato attached to the harness on my chest. Now he’s running, picking up leaves, and pulling at my ears like they’re reins on a horse.

Just watched The Hobbit for the first time. What on earth took me so long?! #movienight #datenight

37500 words written and I'm just starting to get to the main plot point in the story. I feel like I have so much good momentum. Hoping to get this to about 60,000 words for the shitty first draft before going back and adding more context where needed.

Looking forward to the next writing workshop in a few weeks where the group will be looking at my second chapter. Got great feedback on the first one, here’s hoping they like the continuation of this story!

Thinking of checking out a different place in town to right for the next time I get out to work on the book. Hard to find that perfect blend of not too loud/not too quiet.

Last night was the first time I had a writing night out where someone from the writing group joined me! I love getting to write with other writers around.

Edited 2 chapters instead of writing tonight. I know, I know. I shouldn’t edit before the shitty first draft is done. But it has to be presentable before the writing group critiques it! #writerproblems #author

It’s Friday! Which has become a night of working exclusively on the book for me. Looking forward to doing so tonight. This next chapter sets up the main event for what the whole book thus far has been building up to! #author #firstbook #writer

I had a #readingchallenge for myself in 2024 to read 26 books. While I missed that goal…it was only by 5 books - and reading 21 books still feels like a huge win!

Update: ending up writing 3,000 words - and finished a chapter/started the next one. I’m 35583 words in. #bookprogress #writer

....now on to work! Trying to work through this critical chapter without going back and editing what I already did. #futureauthor #writing

One of my favorite places to #write in town at night is at this Kombucha Taproom...I found the perfect time to go where the music is chill and there's almost no distractions as I almost have the place to myself.

One of my favorite photos from the #vanlife days.
March, 2022: It was hot in Palm Springs, so we drove up to Big Bear for the night. We went from sweating to snow, but were too sleepy to drive down into LA. It was a cold night in a hotel parking lot. Dawn broke on the drive down into San Bernardino, as a sea of clouds swirled below us. #vanlife

Making friends as an adult has become so much easier when I finally started showing up with no expectations of friendship - just to enjoy what I’m doing with whomever is around me.

Query letters are so important, and they need to be compelling and captivating. I absorbed everything I could from @ericsmithrocks.bsky.social and his "The hook, the book, the cook" formula (see his blog). And "The Shit No One Tells You About Writing" podcast is excellent, too, and reviews letters.

Securing a literary agent is tough! Only about 1% of queried manuscripts get offers. Strong writing is the #1 thing literary agents look for, and a compelling 'voice'. Agents choose projects they are passionate about and believe they can sell to publishers. #AmQueryingTips

If you’re someone who has a favorite #blog they can’t get enough of - what is it?

Regardless of topic, I’d love to know what you’re drawn to and what about that source brings you back again and again! #question

I’m not only attempting to write this book, I am also a #copywriter by profession. And my mini win of the day is reaching out for help from another copywriter and not getting my ego hurt with edits he made. #progress
