They’re one of the things I miss a ton from the Midwest. It just gets too cold, too far down, is my understanding, to grow up here in Fairbanks (which used to be zone 1b or something).

But I’ve got lilies that come up, so maybe I should try some daffodils. Next August, I guess.

One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

I say boring as there is no sense in the Trump/Hillsdale version of history of individuals struggling with one another over competing visions of liberty--no sense of how liberty for one group of people can come at the cost of another's freedom--no sense of irony or paradox. Just hero worship.

For now, suffice it to say how depressing it is that the federal government is putting its authority behind this incorrect, decontextualized, and frankly boring vision of history at the same time that it is cutting funding for the NEH and attacking the Smithsonian's independence.

What a way to end the day. Straight from the camera. No edits besides crop and 30% speed. Find a way to escape the horrors and then return to fight them at full strength ❤️ 🦑
