Here is a fun exercise: Every time you see someone mention $1 million, you can roughly convert it in your head to one whole lifetime of labor. A trillion is a million lifetimes - the wealth of whole nations. A tyrant's plaything to use, to waste, to squander.

No one man should have all that power!

Companies have never been profit-driven; they have always been owner-driven.

Just look at the companies owned by billionaires, and you will see that they might have a few core money-makers, but they can do whatever the fuck they want with the rest.

Capitalism is dead! Shot through the heart by Reagan and Thatcher.

It died as it was born—from wealth taxes. Those taxes compelled the gentry to improve the productivity of their lands. Their abolishment freed shareholders from the shackles of steady returns, enabling big bets and speculation.

Democratic nations need secular holidays to allow workers the time needed to engage with the process of governance. Democracy can't be only for people that have free time like collage students, the elderly and the wealty

Examples below, critiques and additions welcome.

Empathy is no sin because nobody is tempted by it. Loving your enemy takes a lot of hard work. If you disagree with someone's teachings then it would be prudent not to learn their lessons.

Meditating on the words "public servant" while watching the news.

I wonder how they treat their servants, and how we would treat our servants if we had any.

Which is the proper way to treat a servant? The way we wish it was or the way it really is?

A viable and enduring political party is like a nuclear power plant. It requires both the nuclear fuel of passionate radicals to drive progress and generate new ideas, alongside the neutrino medium of moderates to slow down the reaction, ensuring that its energy is harvested safely and sustainably.

History isn’t an exotic land; it’s a time filled with people like us.

Philosophers of the past didn’t write dusty treatises; they aimed to change their world. Many of our ideas are centuries old.

We, too, can transform the world if we dare to see what’s wrong.

"An expert in housing and homelessness recently told me that he thinks sweeps are a tool for propaganda[...] [S]weeping an encampment from one neighborhood, only for it to pop up in another neighborhood a mile away, helps to radicalize [...] both neighborhoods, & seeds hatred toward poor people."

On work-requirements for social benefits:
Why would working people even require government aid?
Why isn't their wage enough?
And where does all that money go to?

At the end of the day the government loses money, the recipient is still poor and the one paying minimum wage is getting record profits.

One of the things I have learn is you choose the hill you die on, it doesn’t matter if that hill is the Absolute or Ultimate Hill, what matters is that one is standing up for rights and values that are worth dying for, because without them, life would not be worth living.

My ultimate pretentious philosophy take on the Trump era is that it's more or less the final form of the "I'm far too mature and intelligent to dirty myself by *believing* in anything" mindset that's been spreading across American culture in various forms for the past ~60 years.

I think most Americans don't realize how irreversibly fucked their democracy already is.

Exhibit A: The success of Cambridge Analytica
Exhibit B: Musk has ALL of your data
Conclusion: Even if you manage to oust Trump and the Republicans, then you'll get to deal with precision targeted propaganda!

I have been enlightened by watching the president of the richest nation hawk EVs in front of the nations presidential building.

A commenter pointed out the contradiction between the president, a petrochem proponent selling electric cars after banning the construction of charging stations.

Tradwives is in many ways a mirror to Marie Antoinette's fake farm - a form of pretend-work wealthy women do for their own entertainment.

Selling it as a way of life is a rather "let them eat homemade bread"-type answer to the exponentially worsening wealth inequality and cost-of-living crisis.

"Our tax dollars!" is the rallying cry of the Oligarchy.

It's the foundational claim for the wealthy should have a greater say in your politics because they pay for a greater share of the government's budget.

"Taxes are not an investment!" It stops being their money once the government takes it.
