The risk of breaching international humanitarian law is long past. Canada must use every tool at its disposal to end this genocide–and do it now.

It was needed long ago, and the refusal to put such consequences on Israel’s unlawful and cruel actions has cost countless lives. While the harm of this delay cannot be undone, Canada has a chance to change course now, and stay faithful to its demands.

All states and international bodies must course-correct and do their part to affirm an international law that applies to all states equally. Not doing so serves to reinforce the growing understanding that international and humanitarian law are optional, to the detriment of human rights everywhere.

It is high time that the government admits to these shameful violations, commit itself to fulfilling its international obligations, and stop providing material and diplomatic support for Israel.

TAS has not yet committed to restoring Mr. Hadhad’s speech. To continue denying Mr. Hadhad the opportunity to speak compounds the damage and mistrust that TAS has caused. It also exacerbates and validates the rise in anti-Palestinian racism we see at the Centre day to day.

The Legal Centre for Palestine is proud to have contributed to the chorus of voices within the legal community who spoke up against TAS’s decision. Without the principled stand of the community, TAS would not have issued this apology.
