RFK Jr. said multiple times during his house and senate hearings today that no scientists have been fired from federal agencies. Our reporting has shown that hundreds, if not thousands, of scientists have been let go from NIH/CDC/FDA

As I have said repeatedly, the impacts of all this are simple: people will die.
A Lancet preprint estimates that if US funding is cut and not replaced, from 2025-2040 there will be 15.2 mil add'l AIDS deaths, 2.2 mil add'l TB deaths, 7.9 mil add'l child deaths from other causes, and 40-55 mil add'l unplanned pregnancies.

@ebi.embl.org:

Many scientists are worried that vital biomedical data housed in U.S. government databases is at risk.

Which aspects of NCBI are mirrored on EMBL-EBI?
Do you plan to back up more U.S. data?

Scientists globally are racing to save vital health databases taken down amid Trump chaos
The mass-archiving effort is in response to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention removing some of its web pages.

The CSR comm I'm on just pulled all Diversity F grants from the current review cycle. These apps are reviewed alongside (and by the same criteria) as all other F grants. So, instead of helping these trainees, they will actually be punished by having their grant reviews delayed at least 1 cycle !?!?

So disappointing.
Crazy to think HHMI has an endowment of $22.6 billion and over $25 billion in net assets. They could quickly expand DEI initiatives to cover the government shutting down. Instead, they chose exactly the opposite.
